How did Kraków burghers live in times past? Appropriately arranged, the furniture, paintings, fabrics, and trinkets recall the atmosphere of bygone days and ways.

Situated just next to St Mary’s Basilica, the burgher mansion from the 17th century provides an opportunity to penetrate the atmosphere of private lives in bygone Kraków. The interiors of the building arranged over two storeys show how the wealthier people of Kraków used to live, how they arranged the places where they lived, and in what conditions they operated in their everyday lives. Here you are invited to see arrangements of private spaces characteristic of various epochs from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Furniture, paintings, fabrics, trinkets and the way they used to be arranged render the atmosphere of bygone days and the customs accompanying them. The interior of the study of a wealthy burgher from the 17th century on the first floor has retained beautiful stuccowork by Baldassare Fontana, and the bedroom is graced by rococo murals. Shown on the second floor is a family apartment from the late 19th century, with the living room providing a testimony to the owner’s position, with the de rigueur grand piano and huge sofa. The museum also organises temporary exhibitions that show various forgotten aspects of bygone life in the city.
