Michael Ackerman, Henryk Hermanowicz, Friedrich Kuhrt, Annika Maass, Jutta Missbach, René Radomsky, Łukasz Trzciński, Michael Ullrich and Wojciech Wilczyk are authors of photographs presented at the exhibition Collateral (KRK/NUE) at Bunkier Sztuki.

The images by artists with ties to Kraków and Nuremberg were created between 1945 and 2016. The starting point is photographs showing a swastika-decorated tribune at the site of the Nazi party conventions in an almost entirely destroyed Nuremberg, and a Mayday parade in post-war Kraków. The exhibition recalls historical events, but it also focuses on the present day: there is football club graffiti, vistas of communist apartment blocks, street portraits, nightlife scenes in both cities and birds flocking in Nuremberg. We view the cities from different, intertwining artistic, documentary and personal perspectives. “The hidden theme of the exhibition In Parallel (KRK/NUE) is the language of photography – its different versions and kinds,” says the curator Wojciech Nowicki. The latest developments in art, as well as the buzz of artists and curators await us in the pavilion in the Planty Garden Ring.

The name of the municipal gallery house and the exhibition pavilion in the Planty Garden Ring make reference to the characteristic shape of the building raised in the 1960s, literally the “bunker of art”. The concrete façade, into which remnants of a historical granary were set, led to the whole being quickly dubbed “a bunker”, a name that became officially accepted throughout Kraków with time. The “Bunker of Art” organises temporary exhibitions of Polish and foreign contemporary art as well as workshops, discussion panels, seminars, and meetings with artists, curators and art critics.
