Antique instruments and interiors, guests from Poland and abroad and seven evenings with music: the 26th International Festival Summer Organ Concerts started in June this year and runs until 27 July. The programme features organ classics by Buxtehude, Pachelbel, Bach and Franck alongside a wide panorama of music from the days long before Maestro Johann Sebastian. We will hear works by Jakub Polak who followed in the footsteps of King Henry III of France as he fled Poland to Paris and Girolamo Frescobaldi, one of the most important composers of late Renaissance and early Baroque, and compositions from Gdańsk (1591) and Pelplin (1st half of the 17th century) tablatures. The event traditionally intertwines the beauty of music and architecture: festival concerts take us to the proud, Gothic St Mary’s Basilica, the Baroque Carmelite church, the Pauline Church rising above the Vistula and the Church of the Holy Cross with the ceiling supported by a single pillar.
