Even though the patron of this festival never visited Kraków, his music is perfectly at home here! The 13th Felix Mendelssohn Music Days open with a concert of works by the German Romanticist performed by piano duo Konstanze Hollitzer and Christian Hornef. We will also hear compositions by Mendelssohn’s sister Fanny, an accomplished musician herself but prevented from having a career simply because of being a woman. Works by the siblings are also presented by Das Diplomatische Streichquartett, which specialises in performing music by composers of Jewish origins.

During the festival, we will also hear Piotr Sałajczyk and Piotr Alexewicz on piano, the talented trio of Marcin Koziak (piano), Aleksandra Kuls (violin) and Bartosz Koziak (cello), and the Polish Cello Quartet focused on the repertoire composed originally for four cellos. With the exception of Władysław Szymański’s organ recital held at the Church of St Martin, all concerts resound at the Center for Jewish Culture in Kazimierz. (Barbara Skowrońska)
