15th International Prof. Jan Jargoń International Organ All Souls Festival
Sunday, November 4, 2018 - Saturday, November 10, 2018
The 15th Jan Jargoń International Organ All Souls Festival shows that classics never get old, especially when it comes to music. The programme includes the canon of organ compositions from the Renaissance and Baroque, such as works by the follower of Franco-Flemish polyphonies Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, excerpts from the Tablature of Jan of Lublin and compositions by Dietrich Buxtehude, Johann Sebastian Bach, Johann Adam Reincken and Georg Böhm. We will also hear musical curiosities: works by a lesser known representative of the Bach family Johann Bernhard, early English country dances by John Playford, and compositions by Marin Marais performed on lute, theorbo and viola da gamba. The 20th century is represented by contemporary Flemish musicians, works by the Gdańsk composer Edwin Rymarz, and of course the festival patron Jan Jargoń (1928-1995) – lecturer at the Academy of Music in Kraków, composer and virtuoso who contributed to the restoration of many antique instruments. Music performed by festival guests resounds at churches of the Paulines, the Holy Cross, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. (Barbara Skowrońska)
