Following his interpretation of the comic opera Don Pasquale, staged at the Kraków Opera for the first time in 2016, Jerzy Stuhr makes his directorial return, once again reaching for the comedy repertoire: this time he has chosen Gioacchino Rossini’s The Barber of Seville. Don Pasquale, Stuhr’s operatic debut, was highly acclaimed by audiences and critics alike. He described his work at the time, saying, “I make the most of my sense of humour and my ability to transmit it to the performers.” The Barber of Seville could have been written especially for the actor and director: it is full of unexpected twists and turns, amusing escapades, intrigues and cross-dressing. One of most famous operas by the maestro of Pesaro tells the love story of Rosina and Count Almaviva, as well as Doctor Bartolo, infatuated with Rosina and desperate to convince her to marry him. The central figure of the opera buffa is the barber Figaro who uses his cunning to lead to a happy ending. The performance stars soloists of the Kraków Opera; we will see Monika Korybalska and Adam Sobierajski. Musical direction comes from Tomasz Tokarczyk.
