Green Games

19 July 2018

Spending the summer in the city? No problem! The urban initiative Lose Yourself in Greenery promoting Kraków’s green spaces and active R&R in the open air means there’s no chance of getting boredJ. There are four ways of getting lost in the great outdoors: engaging in a spot of exercise, enjoying a picnic, watching films under the open sky and taking the Parkobus to different districts in the city to explore local flora and fauna.

Bednarski Park hosts exercise sessions for seniors (Tuesdays) and young mums (Wednesdays). If you’re a hardcore fitness fanatic, head to Jordan Park on Tuesdays for GTX sessions, while if you’re after something gentler to tone the body and soothe the spirit, Decjusz and Kościuszko Parks host classes in yoga and pilates on Wednesday.

In August, the Nowa Huta Reservoir (Saturday) and Kraków's oldest Decius Park (Sunday), host community picnics, on Saturdays and Sundays respectively. There will be fitness sessions and plenty of fun and games for everyone, from badminton to boules. If you’d rather spend the afternoon chilling out, head to the relaxation zone furnished with blankets and deckchairs. And when you get peckish, there will be plenty of delicacies to choose from at the food trucks.

The green Parkobus takes residents of different districts to other parts of the city for nature walks. On 5 August, the bus travels from Krowodrza to Bagry, on 12 August – from Bieżanów to the Nowa Huta Reservoir, and on 19 August – from Nowa Huta to Zakrzówek. Additionally, every other Thursday there are film screenings as part of the campaign Cinema on the Grass. Cinema of Many Cultures. All events are organised by the Municipal Greenery Authority and the Krakow Festival Office.
