In Piano Quintet No. 2, Dvořák returns to Czech folk music inspirations, music well-known to him since he was a boy. Yet, he has already produced some masterpieces and enjoys international fame (Europe, North America, Australia!) and he now writes whatever he thinks fit. Especially that he has understood that classical forms were slowly becoming of no use for him. This is no revolution yet, however its smokes can already be seen on the horizon: in extensively developed themes of part 1, lyrical dumka in part 2, a stylization of the fast Bohemian folk dance furiant in part 3 and light-hearted and spirited polka rhythms in the finale.
Dvořák’s masterpiece will resound at the Jagiellonian University Collegium Novum performed by the artists of the Kraków Philharmonic

A curio: One of the dancing scenes to (sic!) a Bollywood production was shot in the Planty Garden in front of the Collegium Novum building in 2013. The musical The Rhythm tells the story of the love of two students who arrive in Kraków to study at the Jagiellonian University. The cast included some of the most famous Bollywood actors: Adeel Chaudhry and Rinil Routh.
