Sacral music in three instalments. Choral concerts by Dmitry Bortniansky, composer, singer and conductor critical to the musical history of both Ukraine and Russia, with both nations claiming him as their own, represent the top form of the Russian Orthodox Church music of the 18th century. Charles Villiers Stanford’s Magnificat and Te Deum recall the greatest composer of sacral music since Purcell. And to round things up: Requiem in D minor by Anton Bruckner, a devoutly religious man, and composer of numerous sacred works. His Requiem of 1849 is the earliest work Bruckner himself considered worthy of preservation. Three composers and three instalments of sacral music – interpreted by Capella Cracoviensis and Kraków Philharmonic Choir under the baton of Piotr Piwko in the frames of the Musical Bridges project.
