Constructive Decay

In the mid-1990s, Skunk Anansie were a real revelation on the music scene. On one hand, this was due to their distinctive sound oscillating between rock, pop and trip hop, and on the other – to their charismatic, androgynous vocalist Skin. The group’s sound and image were as original as they were controversial, but this didn’t prevent them from performing for Nelson Mandela’s 80th birthday in 1998. By the turn of the millennium, they’d released three acclaimed albums and completed seven sold-out tours… and then they suddenly split up.

The quartet reformed in 2009. Perhaps they aren’t as pioneering as before, but they still have a talent for writing sleek, atmospheric songs – and their live performances are as pugnacious as ever. On 20 February at Łaźnia Nowa, the Brits promote their latest, sixth album Anarchitecture. (Artur Jackowski, "Karnet" monthly)
